2025 Sol C. Johnson High School senior and Valedictorian Selina Elaine Hall, has been awarded the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program is a scholarship program funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to provide financial assistance to high-achieving, low-income minority students pursuing higher education. The program aims to increase opportunities in higher education for these students, particularly those from underrepresented groups in STEM fields.
Students selected as Gates Millennium Scholars will receive an award that will cover all unmet costs for a student based on the cost of tuition, fees, books and living expenses for the academic year, as well as the availability of grants, and other scholarships reported on the student’s financial aid award letter. The scholarship for the undergraduate award may be renewed annually based on satisfactory progress, full-time enrollment and the timely submission of required documents.
The Gates Millennium Scholarship provides seamless support from undergraduate through doctoral programs for students selected as Gates Millennium Scholars entering the target disciplines of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. In addition to financial assistance, the program provides academic support, mentoring, and resources to help scholars succeed in college.
